Exhibit, series show we're still fired up over Frida Kahlo

Frida Kahlo's portrait of horticulturalist Luther Burbank shows her interest in the relationship between life and death. The oil on composite board work was painted in 1932. (Collection Museo Dolores Olmedo, Mexico City. Copyright 2016 Banco de Mexico Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo Museums Trust, Mexico, D.R./Artists Rights Society, New York.)

More than 60 years after her death, Mexican artist Frida Kahlo remains a bracing, singular presence in the art world. Kahlo, who died in 1954, lived a gloriously unconventional life with a volatile marriage and numerous romantic entanglements with both men and women. Her work incorporates Mexican cultural traditions, politics and most of all a strongly female point of view.
