‘Eh Ya Ye’ like much of Trio Da Kali’s repertoire is a song of advice. It concerns a marabout (a West African term for a Muslim cleric, diviner and healer) who falsely claims the power to conjur up jinns (spirits). Ultimately it is a parable about the importance of being honest and recognising one’s own limitations. It is a fast, driving piece where Kronos conjure up the jinns underpinned by Mamadou’s Cuban tumbao styled bass.

Ottocento Art Gallery unveils a 20th century Venetian shop painted by Emo Mazzetti

Emo Mazzetti ( Treviso 1870 – Venice 1955), Small shop in Campo San Barnaba in Venice.

Oil on canvas cm 56 x 82 signed ( E. Mazzetti ) and dated ( 1902 ) lower right.

ROME.- A microcosm condensed in a Venetian shop located in Campo San Barnaba, an area located in the Dorsoduro district, close to the monumental neoclassical facade of the homonymous church, is the protagonist of this painting, multisensorial tranche de vie, from which raise smells, colors, scents of an emporium which is a fragment of the small artisan crafts of the early Venetian Twentieth century. A kaleidoscopic sample of objects and foods, an exceptional proof of virtuosity, where the eye is lost in the myriad of lenticular particular captured by the painter’s brush, the Venetian Mazzetti, specialized in this kind of compositions, as evidenced by the other similar representation, depicting the showcase of an antique shop in the lagoon, coeval to the canvas presented here, on display at the International Exhibition of Monaco in 1901, a painting which gave the Venetian painter the gold medal.

Άρθουρ Έβανς: ο μάγος που ανακάλυψε την Κνωσό, της Πόπης Μαγουλά – Γαϊτάνου

Ο Σερ Άρθουρ Έβανς (1851-1941) ήταν Άγγλος αρχαιολόγος που ανέσκαψε την περιοχή της Κνωσού στην Κρήτη φέρνοντας στο φως και αναστηλώνοντας το παλάτι του βασιλιά Μίνωα. Σημαντικά ευρήματα όπως οι τοιχογραφίες, το αγαλματίδιο της θεάς με τα φίδια, πινακίδες της Γραμμικής Α΄ και Β΄ και άλλα ήρθαν στο φως κατά τη διάρκεια αυτών των ανασκαφών. Ποιος ήταν στην πραγματική του ζωή λοιπόν ο Σερ Έβανς; Τι ανακάλυψε και πόσο σημαντικό θεωρήθηκε αυτό για την παγκόσμια επιστημονική κοινότητα; Ποιες ήταν οι ιδιοτροπίες του και τα προτερήματά του; Μέσα από τα μάτια του δεκαπεντάχρονου Παναγιώτη, η κυρία Μαγουλά – Γαΐτάνου ξεδιπλώνει με όμορφο, εύληπτο και συναρπαστικό τρόπο τη ζωή του «μάγου που ανακάλυψε την Κνωσό».

The exhibition draws primarily from the collection of the Fondation Maeght, located in southern France. This exhibition will serve as a full-scale retrospective of Alberto Giacometti’s career. Along with the Fondation Giacometti facilities in Paris and Zürich, the Fondation Maeght, housing countless works by this singular sculptor, boasts one of the three largest Giacometti collections in the world. With the cooperation of domestic collectors with invaluable works by the artist, the exhibition is scheduled to showcase 132 specially selected works, including sculptures, oil paintings, sketches, and prints, from throughout the artist’s life.

ΕΡΕΥΝΑ Πανεπ/μιου Αθηνών: Το ΚΙΝΗΤΟ ακτινοβολεί και ΣΚΟΤΩΝΕΙ!!!

«Οι επιπτώσεις της κινητής τηλεφωνίας στην υγεία υποβαθμίζονται σκόπιμα για οικονομικούς λόγους» υπογραμμίζει ο καθηγητής Κυτταρικής Βιολογίας, Ραδιοβιολογίας και Ηλεκτρονικής Μικροσκοπίας στο πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών Λουκάς Μαργαρίτης μιλώντας στο Ραδιοφωνικό Σταθμό Μακεδονίας της ΕΡΤ3. Παράλληλα, δίνει συμβουλές για την -όσο το δυνατόν- ασφαλέστερη χρήση συσκευών (ασύρματων τηλεφώνων, tablets., υπολογιστών, routers)

Θανάσιμες επιπτώσεις στην υγεία μπορεί να έχει η χρήση των κινητών τηλεφώνων όπως πιστοποιεί μεγάλη έρευνα του Tμήματος Bιολογίας του Πανεπιστημίου Aθηνών. H έρευνα ξεκίνησε πριν από 8 χρόνια και βρίσκεται ακόμη σε εξέλιξη, ωστόσο οι επιστήμονες έχουν ήδη καταλήξει στο συμπέρασμα ότι η αλόγιστη χρήση του κινητού μπορεί να προκαλέσει από καρκίνο του ακουστικού νεύρου έως μείωση της γονιμότητας, αλλοίωση του γενετικού υλικού και επιτάχυνση του «θανάτου των κυττάρων». 

Τα πειράματά μας έγιναν σε πειραματόζωα & σε καλλιέργειες ανθρώπινων κυττάρων υπό πραγματικές συνθήκες χρήσης κινητών», επισημαίνει ο επικεφαλής της έρευνας καθηγητής Kυτταρικής Bιολογίας και Pαδιοβιολογίας του Πανεπιστημίου Aθηνών Λουκάς Mαργαρίτης.

H διεξαγωγή πειραμάτων σε ανθρώπους δεν μπορεί να γίνει, με εξαίρεση μελέτες ηλεκτροεγκεφαλογραφημάτων, μελέτες επιδημιολογικές, ροής αίματος στο αυτί, κ.ά. Oλες αυτές, σε παγκόσμιο επίπεδο, έχουν καταδείξει επιπτώσεις από τη χρήση του κινητού τηλεφώνου στο αυτί.

«Tα κινητά είναι επικίνδυνα κοντά στο σώμα (αυτί, τσέπες ενδυμάτων) και για πολλά λεπτά κάθε ημέρα και πρέπει επιτέλους να πάψει ο μύθος ότι δεν κάνουν κακό στην υγεία μας», τονίζει ο καθηγητής.

Oι επιπτώσεις στην υγεία, όπως εξηγεί ο κ. Mαργαρίτης, εξαρτώνται από το είδος του κινητού και συγκεκριμένα από την τιμή SAR (specific absorption rate). Πρόκειται για τον ειδικό ρυθμό απορρόφησης της ακτινοβολίας που μετράται σε βατ ανά κιλό σωματικής μάζας και διαφέρει από συσκευή σε συσκευή.

Ιστορική ανακάλυψη: Ιατρική συνταγή του Ιπποκράτη βρέθηκε στο αρχαιότερο μοναστήρι του κόσμου

Μια σημαντική ανακάλυψη πιστεύουν ότι έχουν κάνει οι αρχαιολόγοι ερευνητές της Αιγύπτου καθώς εκτιμούν πως βρήκαν άγνωστη ιατρική συνταγή του Ιπποκράτη κατά την ανακαίνιση της βιβλιοθήκης στην θεωρούμενη ως αρχαιότερη χριστιανική μονή του κόσμου. 

Κατά τη διεξαγωγή έργων αποκατάστασης στη Μονή Αγίας Αικατερίνης στο Νότιο Σινά, οι μοναχοί και οι ερευνητές ισχυρίζονται ότι βρήκαν χειρόγραφο του 6ου αιώνα που περιέχει ιατρική συνταγή που αποδίδεται στον «Πατέρα της Ιατρικής», ο οποίος καταγόταν από την Κω.   

Το χειρόγραφό φέρεται πως περιλαμβάνει τρεις ακόμη συνταγές με εικόνες βοτάνων που γράφτηκαν από έναν ανώνυμο συγγραφέα, όπως μετέδωσε το National Geographic.

An exhibition, on the mysterious disappearance of British explorer, John Franklin and 128 members of the crew during a tragic expedition to Arctic, is to be unveiled at the National Maritime Museum in London from July 14.

Galerie Karsten Greve abbounces exhibition presenting works by eight artists

COLOGNE.- Galerie Karsten Greve announces its show Künstlerräume II, an exhibition presenting eight artists within a diverse parcours, showcasing their distinct formal and substantial qualities. The eight areas created within the gallery space, each dedicated to the works of one artist, do not - as one would assume - amount to hermetically sealed units, but rather – through constant changes in perspective and shifting vistas – present the spectator with intriguing individual positions as well as associative realms in which correspondences and analogies are foregrounded. The spectator embarks on a journey, his perception evolving with every destination, as memories and experiences from the past - if only a few steps behind - influence the immediate impression and make it resonate with sensations of familiarity and strangeness.

Die Anarchistische Abendunterhaltung (DAAU) - Werkende Mieren

DAAU (short for Die Anarchistische Abendunterhaltung) is a music group from Antwerp, Belgium. The band was founded in 1992 and borrowed its name from the novel Der Steppenwolf (1927) by Hermann Hesse. 

The current line-up consists of Roel Van Camp (accordion), Han Stubbe (clarinet), Hannes D'Hoine (upright bass) and Jeroen Stevens (drums, marimba). Founding members Buni Lenski (violin) and Simon Lenski (cello) left the band in 2006 and 2013. In the course of DAAU's history, other musicians have joined the quartet for a limited period: Adrian Lenski (piano), Janek Kowalski (drums), Angélique Willkie (vocals), Fré Madou (upright bass) and Geert Budts (drums). On record, the band also collaborated with An Pierlé, Ya Kid K (Technotronic) and David Bovée (Think of One).
