Ernesto Antonio "Tito" Puente (April 20, 1923 – May 31, 2000) was an American musician, songwriter and record producer. The son of native Puerto Ricans Ernest and Ercilia Puente, living in New York City's Spanish Harlem community, Puente is often credited as "The Musical Pope", "El Rey de los Timbales" (The King of the Timbales) and "The King of Latin Music". He is best known for dance-oriented mambo and Latin jazz compositions that endured over a 50-year career. He and his music appear in many films such as The Mambo Kings and Fernando Trueba's Calle 54. He guest-starred on several television shows, including Sesame Street and The Simpsons two-part episode "Who Shot Mr. Burns?".
Ένα κατάλοιπο της πανάρχαιης Διονυσιακής λατρείας. Ένα από τα γραφικότερα λαϊκά έθιμα της Βοιωτίας είναι ο Βλάχικος γάμος της Θήβας που γίνεται την Καθαρή Δευτέρα και συγκεντρώνει το ενδιαφέρον πολλών επισκεπτών. Ο «Βλάχικος γάμος» είναι κατάλοιπο της πανάρχαιης λατρείας του θεού Διονύσου που διαιωνίζει την οργιαστική θρησκεία του γιου της Σεμέλης στη χώρα των μεγάλων θρύλων, στη Θήβα. Το έθιμο τούτο, παραλλαγή ενός γάμου Βλάχων, φέρνει στο προσκήνιο και στο νου του θεατή ένα πλήθος από προβλήματα που ανάγονται στη σχέση του με τα πανάρχαια λατρευτικά έθιμα της Διονυσιακής θρησκείας, στην καταγωγή των «Βλάχων», στη μεταφορά του εθίμου από τις βουνοκορφές της Πίνδου στην πόλη του Κάδμου και πολλά άλλα.
Ακολουθούσαν το άρμα της βασίλισσας που φέτος είναι η 'Αντρια Παναγιωτοπούλου, καθώς και τα υπόλοιπα καρναβαλικά άρματα του δήμου.
Στην συνέχεια την σκυτάλη πήραν τα μέλη των 126 πληρωμάτων του «κρυμμένου θησαυρού». Πολύχρωμες και πρωτότυπες στολές που χαρακτηρίζονται από φαντασία, ανατροπή και ευρηματικότητα, αντλούν τα θέματά τους τόσο από την πολιτική, όσο και από την καθημερινότητα.
Κανονικά θα λειτουργήσουν οι λαϊκές αγορές την Καθαρά Δευτέρα, όπως ενημερώνει η Πανελλαδική Ομοσπονδία Συλλόγων Παραγωγών Αγροτικών Προϊόντων Λαϊκών Αγορών.
Επίσης, τα καταστήματα της Αγοράς του Καταναλωτή, στον Οργανισμό Κεντρικών Αγορών και Αλιείας, στου Ρέντη, θα λειτουργήσουν από τις 8 το πρωί της Κυριακής, 26 Φεβρουαρίου, συνεχόμενα μέχρι την Καθαρά Δευτέρα, 27 Φεβρουαρίου, στις 2 μετά το μεσημέρι.
Εξάλλου, παραδοσιακά και η Βαρβάκειος Αγορά, στο κέντρο της Αθήνας, ανοίγει από τις 10 το βράδυ της Κυριακής και θα παραμένει σε λειτουργία μέχρι τη μία μετά το μεσημέρι της Καθαράς Δευτέρας, ενώ και τα αρτοποιεία θα είναι ανοιχτά από το πρωί για την πώληση λαγάνας.
Στους ρυθμούς του καρναβαλιού έχει αφεθεί η Κέρκυρα, μεταφέροντας εικόνες από την Κέρκυρα των ενετικών χρόνων. Γεμάτη από «πόρβερη» πούδρα, «ρόντολες» σερπαντίνες και «πομπέτες» κολόνιες, βενετσιάνικες προσωπίδες, αρλεκίνους και ντόμινο, κόμισσες και κόντηδες που βολτάρουν στα στενά καντούνια.

The Royal Academy of Arts presents America after the Fall: Painting in the 1930s, an exhibition chronicling the turbulent economic, political and aesthetic climate that dominated the decade following the Wall Street Crash of 1929. Drawn from collections across the USA, America after the Fall showcase forty-five seminal paintings by some of the foremost artists of the era. For the very first time, Grant Wood’s iconic painting American Gothic, 1930 (Art Institute of Chicago), will be exhibited outside North America. The exhibition will also feature works by Thomas Hart Benton, Georgia O’Keefe, Philip Guston, Edward Hopper, Alice Neel and Jackson Pollock.
