Kuch Khaas: Instrumental Ecstasy concert VIII Alghoza

Kuch Khaas and The Institute for Preservation of Art and Culture (IPAC) bring you the eighth concert of the Instrumental Ecstasy series of concerts. After the success of the previous concerts that featured classical music, this will be the first concert featuring folk instrumental music. 

The melodic brilliance of the classical music of the Indian subcontinent owes its existence to the folk music of the region. In this event you will experience the richness and splendor of the indigenous folk music of Sindh. 

Featuring instrument: Alghoza 

The Alghoza is a folk music instrument from Sindh province. It is popular in the Thar desert regions of Pakistan and Rajasthan desert of India. It is essentially a double flute but the playing style is very different from a normal flute 

Both flutes are played while holding them parallel at the same time by the musician breathing his soul into them. The best part about Alghoza is that continuous sound is generated by breathing into the two flutes simultaneously in rapid manner (circular breathing). The music bounces like ricochet of a stone on the water surface. 

We are lucky to have one of the best Alghoza players of Pakistan, Akber Khameesu Khan to perform for us on this event. Akber is the son of the legendry Alghoza maestro Khameesu Khan. Today Akber is renowned for his skill to play the alghoza and has travelled all over the world to represent Pakistan in various music festivals.
