Leveret - The Rising Sun

It’s one of the delights of the current British folk revival that musicians are keen to collaborate with each other in a remarkable array of different bands. The first such new project of the year is a trio featuring Sam Sweeney, the Bellowhead fiddle-player, who also works with The Full English, Fay Hield and others, and who is joined here by concertina player Rob Harbron and melodeon and accordion star Andy Cutting, who has collaborated with Martin Simpson, Chris Wood, June Tabor and many more. Their album consists entirely of instrumentals, from traditional tunes including hornpipes and morris dances to self-written pieces such as Cutting’s delightful Milford. Remarkably, it was recorded in just one day, with the three artists working spontaneously rather than following arrangements, and the result is an elegant, sophisticated set.
