Igino Giovanni Brunori and Virginia Nicoli of Samvad are an innovative musical duo crafting new sounds from ancient materials. Their performances are meditative journeys through a rich landscape of melody and rhythm, using bansuri (Indian bamboo flute), silver flute and saxophone and voice. They play with tabla or pakhawaj (drums) and love to collaborate with musicians from all over the world.

In whatever arrangement, Samvad’s original compositions and improvisations are founded on the most rigorous traditions of Indian Classical music, Dhrupad. Together with their teachers, the Gundecha Brothers (Dhrupad singers) they have forged their own musical language in which Raga (melodic frames of indian classical music) and tala (rhythm cycles) remain the core features. In this sense, their music is less of a fusion and more of a dynamic expression of these traditional principles.

Samvad means to ‘speak together’ or ‘accord’ in Sanskrit. There is much accord between the art and life of Igino and Virginia. Music brought them together and continues to be the driving force in their lives. Music is their life and life is their music. Their shared passions give a special tone to their sonic creations, at once deeply connected to ancient traditions and still pulsing with the present.

The exceptional quality of Samvad’s music derives from their attention to sound quality, to micro-tonal detail and to the mysterious dialog between the two. East and West, ancient music and contemporary sounds meet in a new interpretation of tradition and modernity.

Solo & Indrė. Manssani - Bitelė

SOLO & INDRĖ - Senegalese griot Solo Cissokho

and Lithuanian musician Indrė Jurgelevičiūtė meet each other

for their first duo recording.

It is the first meeting of kanklės and kora, two instruments having a very similar sound but representing two different traditional musical cultures, in which Senegalese and Lithuanian folk melodies intertwine with spontaneous improvisations of the musicians and plunge us into a shimmering, light and soft flow of acoustic music. The Norwegian - based Senegalese musician Solo Cissokho plays kora, a string instrument from West Africa, and performs vocal parts. He is a griot - a special performer, storyteller and praise singer who transmits the African traditions and culture first hand though music. Indrė Jurgelevičiūtė, a singer and kanklės player, more and more frequently appears in international stages with world music bands, harmoniously combining her Lithuanian musical root with improvisations in other musical styles and genres. Indrė is one of a few kanklės players who is maintaining and exploring traditional kanklės sound in various music styles.

Είναι όμορφη η ζωή στις εσχατιές του Ιονίου.

Λευκά κρίνα ανθίζουν στην άμμο, ο αέρας μυρίζει δεντρολίβανο,
μυρτιά και κυπαρίσσι, κι η θάλασσα είναι διάφανο κάτοπτρο
που σε προσκαλεί να λυτρωθείς στη δροσιά του.

Τα 51α ΔΗΜΗΤΡΙΑ ετοιμάζονται,

και η βοήθεια όλων σας θα είναι πολύτιμη!

Αγαπητές εθελόντριες και εθελοντές,

ο Δήμος Θεσσαλονίκης διοργανώνει και φέτος το θεσμοθετημένο Φεστιβάλ «ΔΗΜΗΤΡΙΑ», το οποίο θα πραγματοποιηθεί για 51η συναπτή χρονιά, από τις 30 Σεπτεμβρίου έως τις 23 Οκτωβρίου 2016. Ανατρεπτικά, τολµηρά, αιρετικά, ανεξάρτητα και πάντα στην κόψη των καιρών, τα Δηµήτρια 2016 για άλλη µια χρονιά και καταµεσής της οικονοµικής κρίσης όχι απλώς δεν χαµηλώνουν τον πήχη τους, όχι απλώς δεν λιποψυχούν, µα απεναντίας φιλοδοξούν να παρουσιάσουν στη Θεσσαλονίκη του Οκτωβρίου ένα πλούσιο πρόγραµµα ιδεών, δράσεων και θεάµατος πολιτισµού.
